10 Reasons To Swim
1. Health
Swimming is a great sport for all ages and abilities. It is low impact and engages a maximum number of muscles in one go. A swimming lifestyle boasts increased cardiovascular, lung, and muscle strength to mention just a few.
2. Escape
Jump in the water and all noises are off. It is only you and the water. The time you can spend with yourself in your own head is therapeutic. Let the water be your sky and feel weightless. Make it a place where your troubles and stresses cannot enter. This time is for you.
3. Flexibility
Swimming can help loosen and lengthen muscles after just one 20-to-30-minute session. Making it a part of your lifestyle will improve not only your posture but can help ward off injuries.
4. Social
Swimming is absolutely a team sport. If you are a part of a team already you know of the fun it can be. Making friends before, during and after meets or practices is just part of the culture. If you are swimming solo, make a point to talk to at least one other fellow swimmer during your session. You might find a good friend or training buddy.
5. Life Lessons
A lifetime of swimming can teach so many valuable, dare I say, priceless lessons. Budgeting of time. Loyalty. Teamwork. Commitment. Hard work and rewards. Responsibility. Friendship. Leadership. This list can go on, please leave it in comments! What has a life of swimming rewarded you with?
6. Anyone can do it.
Whether you are working with an infant or you are 100 years old, you can swim. There are a multitude of modifications to fit every and all abilities. Not all pools are deep, so if you are lacking confidence find a shallow lane and give it a try. You can always stand up!
7. You can just show up.
Well, pretty much. You will need at least a suit; skinny dipping is frowned upon in most public pools! Start with the minimum and add gear if you have a desire too. But all you really need for that first time is a suit.
8. Happiness
Endorphins produced from working out are proven to reduce stress and boost mood. Combine that with how refreshing a splash in the water is and you are bound to be looking forward to a bright and cheerful day. So, wake up and go! Did you know swimmers see more sunrises than the average person?
9. Open doors.
Swimming can lead to bigger and better things. If you start this lifestyle by joining a club team or a health club what else can you do? Maybe a love for swimming will encourage you to try biking or running. You could find yourself competing in a triathlon! Or on your way to the pool, you find yourself checking out the class schedule of your health club and decide to try a few.
10. Fun
Swimming is fun. Fun to be free. Fun to push yourself. Fun to get stronger. Fun to meet new people. Fun to learn new things. Fun to improve. Fun to compete. Let's go back to the comment box. Why is swimming fun for you?
